My heart breaks to watch many within the kingdom use written and verbal FIRE AGAINST FIRE in attacking their human “enemies.” I heard this term in my prayer time this morning. It’s a term that means that you use the same tactics as your enemies on them and fire back even more intensely. My question who is supplying the fire power? Seems like much of the spiritual fire unleashed especially on social media is hell fire and soulish and not Holy Spirit at all. This is NOT only a social media issue, it’s an issue across the board. It’s in every workplace, family, and church, to some degree.
Look at the fruit that follows. Holy Spirit fire brings reverence, repentance, and humility in its wake. Hellfire leaves pain, discouragement, anger, and bloody bodies in its wake. Holy Spirit fire purifies and restores the former beauty and original intent. Hell fire’s only intent is destruction of people and the things they hold dear.
James 3:6 – The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
What does the bible say as to how we should treat our fellow humans when we disagree? Our “enemies.” Does it tell us to fight fire with fire? No.
We are told in Ephesians 6:12 –
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
This is where we fight hell fire with holy fire. This is a call to intercession for the people being used as puppets in the enemies plans. If we can see them as hostages it helps tremendously.
What about the flesh and blood? How are we called to treat the actual people involved? We are called to LOVE them.
Romans 12:20-21- To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (ESV)
We will not change this world by treating people the way they treat us. We are called to a higher standard. We must overcome evil with good.
Luke 6:27-28 –“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.
Ephesians 4:29 – Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
I think Jesus was the best example when He uttered the words on the cross…FATHER FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. We should be able to do the same if it is truly Him living in us.
Galatians 2:20- I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
We must counter the hate we see in this world with love, the mean spiritedness with kindness, the harshness with gentleness, the division with unity, the depression with hope, bitterness with joy, the slander with compliments, the violence with peace, the death with life. The ONLY way to overcome the evil we experience in the day to day is with the good we carry.
Sometimes instead of seeking deeper and deeper revelations from God we need to go back to the basics of how we should live and how we should treat one another.
Each one of us is making this world into what it will be with our attitudes, behavior, and the words we speak. If we want to see change it has to start with us. Let’s be the love we want to see in this world. If we are going to unleash something into the atmosphere let it be LOVE!
